Insider tip Skiathos

Skiathos is a Greek island in the northwest of the Aegean Sea with about 60 km2 and 6,000 inhabitants. It is one of the lesser-known islands in Greece and yet, with its more than 60 fantastic beaches, it is one of the insider tips among insiders and water sports enthusiasts. Paradisiacal beaches, Greek cuisine and the lively, young nightlife characterise Skiathos.

The centre is the capital of the same name, which is also called "Chora" by the locals. The old harbour and Papadiamanti Street are the town's promenades in the evening. Dozens of bars, cafés, tavernas and boutiques as well as a lively nightlife characterise the small town. The film "Mamma Mia" was largely shot on Skiathos.

Greek Caribbean feeling...

Whether sun-seekers or hiking and water sports enthusiasts - Skiathos has something to offer for everyone. The mountainous terrain with good hiking routes is suitable for extensive tours. The extensive pine forests offer shade even on hot days and once you reach the top of the mountain, you will be rewarded for your climb with unique panoramas.

For water lovers, the wild and remote beaches in the north lure with their waves, and paragliding in particular finds many fans here. Sailing and snorkelling fans also get their money's worth on Skiathos.

There are around 300 different species of fish off the island, including swordfish and tuna. If you are lucky, you may even encounter dolphins and discover rare red corals on the seabed. The southern beaches offer beach bars and beach clubs, the perfect environment for sun-seekers.
